"Home For The Holidays" Fundraiser

Occupy Freedom School is having its first fundraiser this Saturday to help fund its daily operations as well as help us restore a house on the South side to help serve the nearby community.

Occupy Freedom School is schedules to open its doors to the Washington Park community January 7, 2013. There are a plethora classes offered at OFS including but not limited to yoga, restorative justice, media literacy, history, and music. A community garden is being established across from the center where additional learning will take place. In order to complete this mission we must first restore this historic greystone home in time to have a wonderful holiday present to give to the Washington Park community.

There will be food, music, and some awesome items up for silent auction. It will be from 4-6:30pm at 5638 S. Woodlawn, graciously hosted by SHoP (South side Hub of Production).

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door, and all money raised will go toward materials for OFS and toward helping renovate 6026 S. Vernon.

Street Medic Training with Chicago Action Medical

Register for Chicago Action Medical's (CAM) workshop on the website at

http://chicagoactionmedical.wordpress.com/

Information
What are street medics? Street medics, or action medics, are volunteers with varying degrees of medical training who attend protests and demonstrations to provide medical care such as first aid.

Who is CAM?
Chicago Action Medical (CAM) is a collective of action medics that has provided medical support at direct actions for social change since 2002. We have also helped organize and provide medical care at many actions for social change and environmental justice throughout the country. Some of our members were part of establishing the Common Ground Health Clinic in post-Katrina New Orleans, and others have worked in the occupied territories of Palestine.

When and where is the training?
CAM is conducting a 20-hour street medic training on December 14th-16th. Friday night will run from 6 pm to 10 pm, and Saturday and Sunday will run from 9 am to 7 pm. Please make sure you can attend the full training before signing up. The training will be at Occupy Chicago’s headquarters at 500 W. Cermak.

How much does the training cost?
Our suggested donation is $10-$100 for the whole training. Give what you can; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Do I need any prior experience?
No medical or protest experience is required to attend this training. That said, we welcome people with all levels of medical training, including EMT, WFR, RN, MD, etc.

Additional info: Space is very limited and we may have to put people on standby. If for any reason you cannot make part or all of the training, please notify us so we can utilize the freed slot. You are going to have fun and get a little messy, so wear clothes you won’t mind getting dirty. Questions? Contact us at estherfm@riseup.net or 847-420-4841.

Classes to resume at Cermak

Unless we receive information stating that the sit in will continue at city hall to protest the school closings in Chicago (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/03/ctu-protesters-arrested-c_n_2068826.html) OFS classes will resume as usual at 500 W. Cermak rm 501.

ALL CLASSES MOVED TO CITY HALL!

Currently there is a sit in going on at city hall of roughly 50 people protesting the imminent closings of public schools.

The Occupy Freedom School will stand in solidarity with those fighting to keep education accessible to all, as well as maintaining a better educational environment for teachers by preventing overcrowding.

So, as long as the sit in continues at city hall ALL OFS classes will take place at city hall on the 5th floor in front of the mayor's office.
