What are street medics?
Street medics, or action medics, are volunteers with varying degrees of
medical training who attend protests and demonstrations to provide
medical care such as first aid.
Who is CAM?
Chicago Action Medical (CAM) is a collective of action medics that has
provided medical support at direct actions for social change since 2002.
We have also helped organize and provide medical care at many actions
for social change and environmental justice throughout the country.
Some of our members were part of establishing the Common Ground Health
Clinic in post-Katrina New Orleans, and others have worked in the
occupied territories of Palestine.
When and where is the training?
CAM is conducting a 20-hour street medic training on December 14th-16th.
Friday night will run from 6 pm to 10 pm, and Saturday and Sunday will
run from 9 am to 7 pm. Please make sure you can attend the full
training before signing up. The training will be at Occupy Chicago’s
headquarters at 500 W. Cermak.
How much does the training cost?
Our suggested donation is $10-$100 for the whole training. Give what
you can; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Do I need any prior experience?
No medical or protest experience is required to attend this training.
That said, we welcome people with all levels of medical training,
including EMT, WFR, RN, MD, etc.
Additional info:
Space is very limited and we may have to put people on standby. If for
any reason you cannot make part or all of the training, please notify us
so we can utilize the freed slot.
You are going to have fun and get a little messy, so wear clothes you
won’t mind getting dirty.
