Occupy Freedom School is
having its first fundraiser this Saturday to help fund its daily
operations as well as help us restore a house on the South side to help
serve the nearby community.
Occupy Freedom School is schedules
to open its doors to the Washington Park community January 7, 2013.
There are a plethora classes offered at OFS including but not limited to
yoga, restorative justice, media literacy, history, and music. A
community garden is being established across from the center where
additional learning will take place. In
order to complete this mission we must first restore this historic
greystone home in time to have a wonderful holiday present to give to
the Washington Park community.
There will be food, music, and
some awesome items up for silent auction. It will be from 4-6:30pm at
5638 S. Woodlawn, graciously hosted by SHoP (South side Hub of
Production).
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door,
and all money raised will go toward materials for OFS and toward helping
renovate 6026 S. Vernon.

We'd like to thank Laura and all the good people at SHoP (Southside Hub of Production), for allowing us to use their space on such short notice and being so accommodating. We want to thank Bec Behlen for providing much of the food from last night. Also, we need to give some shout outs to Ben Wilkes and Dan B. for providing us with some great music. Of course big thank you's are in order to Open Produce, Hyde Park Produce, Cedars, Chaturanga Holistic Fitness, pH Productions, the Fair Trader and everyone who contributed toward the silent auction. And last but certainly not least, thank you all who came out in support of OFS and our vision for providing an alternative in community based education!
